Gauge:

  • 14 sc and 17 rows = 4″ [10 cm] with larger hook
  • Motif = 5″ [12.5 cm] square with larger hook

Notes:

  • Before working with multishade yarn braid, separate each color link and wind into 5 separate balls.
  • Due to the finite amount of yarn in each shade, pattern gauge must be matched to ensure successful results.

2nd rnd: Join Color 2 with sl st to any corner ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp, ch 1, [(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp, ch 1] 3 times, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.

Finishing

Sew motifs together using appropriate colors through back loops only, with a whip stitch. Arrange the motifs randomly while keeping them all facing the same direction. Fold the work in half to form the cardigan shape. Sew the side and underarm seams.


Body Edging and Collar

With RS facing and smaller hook, join MC with sl st to bottom right corner ch-3 sp of Front opening.

Collar

2nd row (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each sc up right Front, across back Neck and down left Front. (162 dc.) Turn. Leave remaining sts unworked.

3rd row: Ch 2 (counts as hdc). 1 dcfp around next dc. 1 dcbp around next dc. Rep from * to last dc. 1 hdc in last dc. Turn.
