FREE PATTERN: Little Pumpkin Jar

Materials & Gauge

Skill Level: Easy
Finished Size: Approx. 4½” [11.5 cm] tall (excluding stem) × 5½” [14 cm] diameter
Gauge: 10 hdc and 8 rows = 4″ [10 cm], holding 2 strands together

You’ll Need:

  • Yarn: Medium Weight Yarn (Category 4)
    • Contrast A: Hot Orange – 1 ball (120 yds / 109 m)
    • Contrast B: Warm Brown – 1 yd / 1 m
  • Hook: U.S. J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook
  • Notions: Yarn needle

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • Beg = Beginning
  • Ch = Chain(s)
  • Hdc = Half double crochet
  • Hdc2tog = (Yoh and draw up a loop in next stitch) twice. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
  • Pat = Pattern
  • Rem = Remaining
  • Rep = Repeat
  • Rnd(s) = Round(s)
  • Sc = Single crochet
  • Scbl = Single crochet in back loops only
  • Sl st = Slip stitch
  • St(s) = Stitch(es)
  • Tog = Together
  • Yoh = Yarn over hook


Crochet Little Pumpkin Jar Pattern

Note: Join at end of each rnd with sl st to top of first st.


BASKET

Holding 2 strands of A tog, ch 4. Join with sl st to first ch to form ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 9 hdc in ring. Join. 9 hdc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 hdc in each hdc around. Join. 18 hdc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 2 hdc in each hdc around. Join. 36 hdc.
4th to 9th rnds: Ch 1. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join.
10th rnd: Ch 1. *Hdc2tog. 1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc. Rep from * around. Join. 30 sts.
11th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join. Fasten off.

LID

Work from ** to ** as given for Basket.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 2 hdc in 1st hdc. *1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. Rep from * to last 2 hdc. 1 hdc in each of last 2 hdc. Join. 24 hdc.
4th rnd: Ch 1. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join.
5th rnd: Ch 1. 2 hdc in first hdc. *1 hdc in next hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. Rep from * to last hdc. 1 hdc last hdc. Join. 36 hdc.
6th rnd: Ch 1. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join.
Fasten off.


STEM

With 2 strands of B, ch 7.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 6 sc.
2nd to 4th rows: Ch 1. 1 scbl in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Do not fasten off.

Fold piece to align rem loops of foundation ch with sts of last row worked.

Joining row: Working through back loops of sc just worked and rem loops of foundation ch, sl st in each st to join. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Using long tail, sew Stem into position at center of Lid.
