Note: Garment is worked in one piece. Chain-2 at beginning of row does not count as hdc.

Rib Texture: Uses dcfp and dcbp stitches

Body Texture: A 2-row repeat of alternating hdc and slip stitches

Back and Body:

With smaller hook, beg at lower back edge, ch 103 (107-111).
Row 1 (WS): 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each ch to end. Turn. (101 [105-107] dc)
Row 2: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first dc. 1 dcfp around next st, 1 hdc in next st. Rep to end. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first hdc. 1 dcbp around next dcfp, 1 hdc in next hdc. Rep to end. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first hdc. 1 dcfp around next dcbp, 1 hdc in next hdc. Rep to end. Turn.
Repeat Rows 3–4 for rib pattern until piece measures 8″ [20.5 cm], ending on a WS row. Fasten off.


Begin Texture Pattern:

Next Row (RS): Skip first 11 sts. Join yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp. Sl st in next st, 1 hdc in next st. Repeat to last 11 sts. Turn, leave remaining sts unworked.

Work on 79 (83-87) sts:
Alternate rows of:

  • Sl st in hdc, hdc in sl st

Shape Neck – Right Side:

Row 1 (RS): Ch 2. (1 hdc, sl st) in next 32 (33–34) sts. Leave rem sts unworked.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, continue in pattern. (29 [31-33] sts). PM for shoulder.
Rows 3–6: Work even in pattern.

Left Side Neck Shaping:

Row 1 (RS): Skip 19 sts center back. Join 2nd yarn ball. Work pattern across next 31 (33–35) sts. Turn.
Row 2: Pattern to last 2 sts, sc2tog. (29 [31–33] sts). PM for shoulder.
Rows 3–6: Work even.
Row 7 (RS): Ch 1. (1 hdc, sl st) in first st. Work across. Turn.

Join Sides:

Rib Edgings (Right & Left):

  • Attach yarn to back edge skipped sts

  • Work rib pattern (dcfp/dcbp with hdc) over 11 sts

  • Leave loops live or mark with pin

  • Sew edgings to side of poncho.

Lower Front Edging:

Return to loop from Right Rib Edging.

Collar:
