      Yarn weight: Medium / Worsted (Category 4)

Size & Gauge

  • Finished Size: 45″ [114 cm] x 55″ [140 cm]
  • Gauge:
    • 11 sts = 4″ [10 cm]
    • 12 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in Linked
    • Treble crochet using larger hook. 6 sts = 4″ [10 cm]
    • 6½ rows = 4″ [10 cm] in Star stitch using larger hook.

Notes

  • Linked Treble Crochet is worked into side edge of previous st. Star stitch is worked into some of same spaces as previous st.
  • When changing colors, work last step of last st of previous color with new color.
  • Carry colors not in use loosely along side of work. Work Edging over carried yarns to cover.

dc2tog: [Yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 2 times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

Beg Linked Tr (Beginning Linked Treble Crochet): Ch 4, insert hook into second ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook into third ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), skip next ch, insert hook into first stitch of previous row, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), [yo, pull through two loops] three times.

Fltr (Foundation Linked Treble Crochet): Place a slip knot on hook, ch 5, insert hook into second ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook into third chain from hook, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), skip next ch, insert hook into last ch, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through one loop (this creates ch-st that next st will be worked in), [yo, pull through 2 loops] 3 times (first linked treble crochet st made), do not turn your work, *working along side edge of previous st, insert hook in top horizontal bar, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next bar of same st, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), insert hook in last ch-st, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through one loop (counts as ch-st here and throughout), [yo, pull through 2 loops] 3 times; repeat from * until you have the desired number of Fltr sts.

Linked Tr (Linked Treble Crochet): Working along side edge of previous st, insert hook through upper section of st, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next section of same st, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), insert hook in next st along row, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), [yo and pull through two loops] three times.

Beg Star st (Beginning Star Stitch): Ch 2 (counts as hdc here and throughout), insert hook into second ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook into back loop of same ch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), insert hook in first st of previous row, yo, pull up a loop, [insert hook in next st, yo and pull up a loop] twice (6 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 6 loops, ch 1 to close.

Star st: Insert hook into ch-1 of previous st, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook in same st as 5th st of previous Star st, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook in same st as 6th st of previous Star st, yo and pull up a loop, [insert hook in next st, yo and pull up a loop] twice (6 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 6 loops, ch 1.

Instructions

With larger hook and A, work 115 Fltr sts.

Row 1 (Wrong Side): Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, changing to C in last st – 115 sc.

Row 2: With C, turn, work Beg Star st, work Star st to end of row, hdc in same space as last Star st – 57 Star sts and 2 hdc.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first hdc, sc in next ch-1 of previous row, 2 sc in each ch-1 across to last st, sc in last hdc – 115 sc.

Rows 4-5: Repeat Rows 2-3, changing to A in last st of Row 5.

Row 6: With A, turn, work Beg Linked Tr in first st, work Linked Tr in each st across – 115 Linked Tr.

Row 7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across – 115 sc.

Rows 8-11: Repeat Rows 6-7 twice, changing to C in last st of Row 11.

Row 12: With C, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

Row 13: Repeat Row 12, changing to B in last st.

Rows 14-17: With B, repeat Rows 6-7 twice, changing to C in last st of Row 17.

Rows 18-19: With C, repeat Rows 12-13, changing to A in last st of Row 19.

Rows 20-25: With A, repeat Rows 6-7 three times, changing to C in last st of Row 25.

Edging

Round 1 (Right Side): With right side facing, A and smaller hook, turn to work around outside edges, [slip st in each st across to next corner, turn to work along side edge and slip st evenly across side edge to next corner, working 3 slip sts in each Linked Tr row, 1 slip st in each sc row and 1 slip st in each Star st row] twice, slip st in first st – 115 slip sts along top and bottom edges and 145 slip sts along each side edge.

Round 2: Working in back loops only, ch 1, sc in each slip st around, working 3 sc in each corner, slip st in first sc, changing to C – 117 sc along top and bottom edges and 147 sc along each side edge and 1 sc in each corner. Mark each center corner sc.

Round 3: With C, ch 1, sc in same st, ch 1, skip next st, *[sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st] to next marked corner sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner sc, skip next st; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc, changing to A.

Round 4: With A, ch 1, sc in same st and in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner ch-1 space, slip st in first sc, changing to B. Mark each center corner sc.

Round 5: With B, ch 2, dc in same st, ch 1, skip next st, *[dc2tog in next st, ch 1, skip next st] to corner sc, (dc2tog, ch 3, dc2tog) in corner sc, skip next st; repeat from * around, slip st in top of first dc. Fasten off.
